United by a common love of architecture and art, Courtney King and Lama Gyurme Rabgye met while designing and creating interior ornamentation for the Tara Temple at the Buddhist retreat center of Tara Mandala in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Their work together on the temple revealed this common bond and led them to other collaborations. The two designed a subsequent temple to be built in Santa Fe, New Mexico and continue to promote traditional Tibetan Arts by organizing and teaching art workshops. While sharing ideas and material techniques for a traditional Tibetan mask-making workshop they began working with clay together. It was then that Courtney’s ceramics and tile making knowledge and experience gave the pair the opportunity to recreate traditional Tibetan art in an entirely new way. Thus was born the Tibetan Tile Collection.
